Dear Caroline,

I feel very foolish and am not sure about this but I really hope you can help me. I have an embarassing issue which i need someone's advice on. I can't speak to any of my friends its very personal. And i'm not sure if you will be able to help either.

I am 16 year olds and basically need to know if i am a normal girl or not! About 2 years ago I began to masturbate. At first I didn't do it that often, but the problem is that now I think I do it too often. Usually 2 or 3 times a week, and I'm embarassed to say that sometimes its more. I have tried to stop, but i am too week willed. God, I feel ashamed, but it's becoming a habit I'm afraid I will never be able to break.

What's wrong with me? I think I'm popular at school, I have had boyfriends, and think I'm normal, but recently I've started to think i am some sort of pervert.

Am I the only one that has this problem?

Do other girls do it as often? Or am i a freak?

No, you're not a pervert!!!

Its absolutely normal in every sense of the word, everybody does this at some stage in their lives, its all part of becoming an adult, your needs are changing and are becoming sexual, you're becoming a woman and you are having sexual needs, So you are perfectly normal.(some women don't feel this at all and I think they are probably the ones that are freaks!!) Don't feel embarrassed at all and you are no freak! perhaps if you had a regular boyfriend and use protection then you may find it subsides and probably the need to do it will change as you get older.

However don't go around telling your friends because they may not be so sensitive to your personal desire and needs. You did right asking an outsider you should feel better about the issue now and just enjoy it because as you get older and have a sexual relationship with a man you know that you will be able to reach an orgasm because you've done it before!!! and you know how it feels.
