Hi - After recently visiting your town I spent an afternoon watching your football team. People were moaning and groaning about team but more the Manager. I then heard about how much the stand cost. I was shocked. I believe that he council have given a interest free loan to the club. Looking at the team I will be very surprised if you get your money back as none will go to watch them so they will have no money. I believe that for the sake of the town and the councils money firstly the manager should be sacked and the whole team to be put on the transfer list. Exeter City might then buy Darren Lyons as he is a good player.
(SORRY I never talk Football or Politics... But I'm sure some of our readers will!)
John Curran, - Slyne~with~Hest
Great Web Site. I am trying to find the library but can't.
(Hello John, what library?)
Robert S Purvis, - Edinburgh, UK
Ok, makes the place look better than it is. Could do with more links to industry...
(How could we possibly make Morecambe look better than it is!)
Andy Clarkson, - Lancaster, England
Great site! I have created a Webring for people with sites in the Morecambe and Lancaster area. Anybody, including yourselves at www.morecambe.co.uk can add their site, including ex-residents, or people just happy to put a link on their site promoting the towns. This is FREE, and can include businesses, organizations, and anybody with a homepage in the area.
To find out more visit

Having been born in Morecambe, in a guest house on the promenade over fifty years ago, and a regular visitor to the town to visit my parents, I am very pleased to find your very interesting web site, keep up the information, I'm sure it will do a lot to 'sell' Morecambe. (So there was room at the Inn, and plenty of Donkeys!.... Les you old person you, fifty how old and you're browsing the internet on a computer. well done, it's nice to have people from all ages keeping up with technology, we've even had people in their late seventies visiting the site ...It's Great!)
Geoff Lee, Morecambe, England
(Well Geoff ... No Comments! ... You come from Morecambe and can't think of anything to say? Look at Les from York above or Rebecca from Canada below, I admit they are both crawlers (in the nicest possible way) but they have an opinion!... What's Yours?)
Rebecca Kenyon, - Winnipeg, MB, Canada
I moved from Morecambe when I was a child, but it is always interesting to see how the home town develops. Good Website. (Rebecca, you don't live on 'Sunny brook Farm' do you? ... Glad you like the site)
Peter Edgar, - York, UK

Derek Willis, - Morecambe, Lancashire
Well put together web site aimed at the tourist trade, how about a link page aimed at local people and how they can have an input into local issues. Maybe involve local schools who could write in with their local burning issue of the week. (Its a good idea Derek , the problem I'm having is getting the local authorities interested, time will tell!)
Frances Bott, - Newport News, USA
Delighted with your site. My great grandparents are from Morecambe and are buried in Torrsholme Cemetery. Is there any info on the net about Torrsholme Cemetery. Thank you for your help.
Not that I'm aware of, I'll try and dig something up (pun intended!)
Alan Kenyon, - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Hi again.
When I was kid growing up in Morecambe, I heard Morecambrians referred to as "Sand grown 'uns". Does anyone know the origin of this handle? I assume it means someone who has 'grown up" by the sand.
Hi Alan, In the early 19th century Morecambe was just a small fishing village called Poulton-le-Sands and I would assume "Sand grown 'uns"comes from there. (unless anyone knows different!) Born & Bred
PS. Don't forget to let us know how you feel the town is developing. Su below thinks it's gone down hill!
Su , - Zoetermeer, The Netherlands
If only Morecambe could be so modern and interesting as the site seems to be. I lived there for too long and watched it go down hill, all the renovations are just not enough and are taking place much too slowly. There are too many shops that sell too much rubbish. Shame, it used to be so nice. The only reason I come back is that I have family living there.
Su, Su, Su...what can I say..... We must take the bad with the good, and yours is definitely 'bad', Everyone has their own opinions and I respect yours.
The renovations are taking a long time, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Money is always a key factor as to how much improvements are made at any one time, but I think an amazing amount of progress has been made. The "Rubbish" in the shops is aimed at tourists, wanting to take a little keepsake away with them or have a bit of 'fun', and believe me, it sells by the bucket load. There are plenty of shops in and around Morecambe selling top quality products, but when you are walking down the promenade, you want to buy inexpensive things so you don't blow all you holiday money at once.... OK, it's the best excuse I can think off!
Finally I can't believe it's all that bad or your family would have moved away!...Ahaaa... Gotcha!
Cheers Su
Marty Reinders, - San Jose Ca, USA
Good Start! I Visited Morecambe and Heysham Village in December 1988 with my Ex- Wife. Her Family lived in Heysham at the time, They had a house that overlooked the Ocean, and the Old Church. It was a Breath-taking view. There was an old house that was down the little street (on the right hand side) in the picture of the Town Square, across the street from the Church that was abandoned in 1988. Did anyone ever restore it? I was looking for more pictures of the "Local people, and less tourist stuff.
I'll Be back!
Hi Marty, the Church is still in the same state! it's called Heritage! "Pictures of locals" - they are all camera shy but I'll try and sort something out. "Asta la Vista Babe!" (if that's how you spell it)
James Connor, - Morecambe, United Kingdom
'not bad '- not bad , Not Bad, NOT BAD!, Is that all you can say? No real comments about some of the Stories or the Archives or the Eric Morecambe page.... Sorry!, you could or said 'Rubbish' or worse! No after all I think 'not bad' is, well, 'not bad'. Cheers James

Hello Again Nadine, Thank you for your suggestion of the 'guest book'. As you can see from the responses below, people from all over the world are leaving their comments. It has become a popular section of the site. Cheers, Peter.
Alan Kenyon, - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
An excellent web site. I was born in Morecambe too many years ago to mention and it's nice to see the home town on the web. The accomodations section is especially helpful as I am planning a return visit in the very near future. Keep up the great work. (Hello Alan, I've never met you but I like you already, glad you like the site. If you should visit, please let us know how you feel about the town is developing)
BOB, - GLUSBURN, ENGLAND

Very Good.
Two thoughtful words can speak a thousand! Cheers Terry.
Gary Petersen, - West Point, Utah, USA
You have made Morecambe look great fun with the pictures. I was in Morecambe 15 yrs ago for 7 months and was hoping to find pictures of surrounding areas not just the rides and things. I know there are other beautiful gardens, golf, buildings, etc that could be included. But I love what you've done so far.
Cheers Gary, I'm working on some scenic photographs as we speak!
Ian Law, - Moncton NB. Canada

HELP! (Come on you good people, we've done it once, we can do it again!)
I was interested in looking up my past. My grandfather 'Jack Reeve' was born in Wigan and lived in Morecombe over 50 years ago. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
For a more detailed description click HEREIf you know Jack Reeve, or have any information you think we might find useful, please get in touch with me: peter at morecambe.co.uk or directly to Christopher on e-mail: superman253@Juno.com
Good Luck Christopher, we're going to need some 'Kryptonite' for this one!!!
Martin Slater, - Heysham, England
Well presented and nice and colourful. Could do with a "What's on" for the next few days, not just the next few months. On the activities a price would be handy. eg How much is the Golf ?
Hi Martin, Good Ideas, I'll look in to them (Golf green fees from Weekdays £17 and Weekends £27)
Linda Moltu, - Crewe, UK
The site is great, BUT, what about info on the famous Morcambe Bay walk, I can't find out about at all.
Here are some details although fully booked for this year Morecambe Walk
Paul Andrew, - Lancaster, England
I think the site is a great idea. Some better pictures of Morecambe and the surrounding area would be good as Morecambe is beautiful and should be shown to everyone. lets have some pics of the Bay, the sunsets etc.

(My old mate, I remember you, 6'2" eyes of blue, You used to live behind that big old, and went to, well how long's it been?.... Gary, sorry, thought you said Larry ... I don't know you at all... Living in Canada must be Great but I bet you can't get Morecambe out of your system. Book yourself and Family? in for a holiday, It's only a few thousand miles and then maybe I will get to know you?)

We are enjoying viewing this site with commentary from visitors from Morecambe.
(Hi Jack... no pun intended!.. The way you write suggests you may have foreign connections?.. nice to here from you.)
Tony Thornburrow, - Blackpool, UK
I like what I have seen so far. I come from Morecambe but now live and work in Blackpool, (not a million miles away), and continue to visit the number one resort from time to time.mainly to visit family, however the changes to the seafront are taking a long time to complete.I don't know what the flippers are supposed to represent in the picture above!!! check on you again and see if there are any changes. (The flippers are to represent people having a good time!)
Les Hurlock, - Newberg OREGON, USA
I met my wife in Morecambe in 1943 when I was in the RAF. We married in Morecambe Aug 4th 1945

Carol Davidson, - Scarborough, Canada
HELP!... A touching story of how the internet site works
I think your site is great, however I am trying to locate someone who once lived there . Her name is Elizabeth Bertram age 77 Maiden name is Porter originally born in Glasgow but has lived in England since either 1951 or 1952. Last I knew she was married to Norman Bertram has 3 Children (1 Male 45 years old? 2 Female I think they would be in their early 40's)
Thanks for giving me the address that I should mail to for the Voters Role, I sent it and I got information back yesterday, the above noted person is my biological mother who I find out passed away 7 years ago but I did receive two letters from half sisters so it was thanks to you that I can put some of the missing pieces of my life together.
Thanks Again
Carol Davidson
(A success, even though a sad one, good luck Carol)If anyone else needs any help to find a friend or lost relative, please email me, peter at morecambe.co.uk and I will post your request on the visitors book and try to help.

(What Kris, no comments?)
Ted Rhodes, - Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Very interesting and useful - would appreciate a more detailed map of the city and surrounding communities
(we're working on it!)
Jason Eden, - London
Loved the archives but was concerned that the map of morecambe showed it to be on the east coast of England ? A strange way to represent the town - upside down. I used to go to Heysham High School from 1979 to 1986.
Best wishes (Yeh, you're right... however because the coastline actually makes a right turn into Morecambe bay, Morecambe actually faces North, so we've cheated a bit to make it more readable, hope you forgive us!!!)
Dave Mullen, - Muscat, Sultanate of Oman
Now working overseas, I haven't been home to Morecambe for two years. Hello to Mum, Tony, Paula and the 5 J's. Nice to see the web pages, need more photographs of how the place is now !! Keep up the good work.

I used to live in Lancaster and work around the Lancaster & Morecambe area. I just wanted to say that I found the site interesting and nostalgic. Many of the entries bring back a lot of good memories.
It is about nine years since I was last in Morecambe but I hope to visit some time in the near future. I am employed as a lecturer in building at the Northern Territory University in Darwin.

Steve Clark, Canberra, Australia
Gday, just thought I'd see what's happening in sunny Morecambe.
I grew up in Morecambe and have lots of great memories of the friends and places that I used to hang around in. I am now living in Canberra, Australia. I have been here seven years, and this July/August I am planning a trip back to England. It's the first trip back to England I will have made. The things I am looking forward to most is walking the whole length of the promenade from Happy Mount Park to Heysham. I am actually thinking of writing a short book about my adventures as a kid growing up in Morecambe (based around the promenade, the hours I used to spend on the prom in my mispeant youth would amaze). Anyway I am sat here on Sunday 22nd March and I thought I would look Morecambe up on the net. It was great to see. Anyway got to go now! Looking forward to seeing Morecambe again this summer, and having a pint of Boddingtons in the Bath Hotel!
Cheers. Steve Clark.
P.S. I don't exactly know who is going to be reading this, but feel free to reply if you like at: roo@effect.net.au
Bye.
