Visitors Book 1999

Phyllis, - London, Ontario, Canada e-mail : maphy@lon.imag.net

Hi Everybody: Haven't visited for while but wondered if Fran Holmes ever found out the name of the butcher's shop she was looking for. This was quite some time ago and I lost her address. My brother thinks the name was possibly "Gaunt's" so maybe this will be of some help to her.

I also received the name of a couple in Sarnia, Ontario with whom I will be in touch, thanks to Dave Lea of Elliott Lake, Ontario. The world is surely getting smaller all the time.

Keep the site going, it is great to see so many expats signing in. Love to hear from anyone.

Best wishes to all for a happy Christmas and a great New Year.

Hi Phyllis, You know it's a great feeling when we get a response like yours, Happy Christmas to you too.

Viet Cong Sue, - Rotterdam, Holland. e-mail : martin.normington@quicknet.nl

Hello agin!

Went on the chat Saturday we had the crack!!!!

Come on everybody who comes to the Morecambe web site, get chatting!!!

It Is really good for the crack.

Sue

Hello again, I bet you never shut up! By the way, where were you this Saturday? Caroline missed you.
PS. I've just been in the bathroom and repaired a few 'cracks' there!

Catherine Lesey, - Montreal, Quebec, Canada e-mail : cat@orbital.ca

This is great, like to hear from other Lesey family members.

No Catherine, You are Great!

Hazel Egan nee Hoole, - Australia e-mail : hazel@katel.net.au

Back again

Hi Hazel, so you are! Thanks for Johns Poem

Bono, - Lancaster, England, e-mail : squido1@hotmail.com

This is a crap site

Ah well, you can't win 'em all!

The Queen, - London, England, e-mail : Queen@windsor.com

I see one has accidentally stumbled upon your site once more. One must spank myself. Oh well, as one is here one may as well admit that one is rather pleased with one's backside emissions. They have reduced considerably since I came to your site for the first time. One must remember to notify one's citizens of this gastric-gutter called Morecambe. Since I built my houses I have gone right off the place. One's husband is now green... he also glows in the dark.

Tally Ho,

Liz

Liz, Maam, whatever! How could you be so rude, after we offered you such a warm welcome and hospitality, not to mention the free lunch! I didn't realise you had such a healthy appetite, there wasn't enough left for a doggy bag!. As Phil now glows in the dark, it should save a few bob on those enormous electricity bills.

I suppose my knighthood is now out of the window!

Viet Cong Sue, - Rotterdam, Holland. e-mail : martin.normington@quicknet.nl

Hi (well not yet!!!!}

It's V C Sue again, well I got on to the Morecambe chat but It was with that agony uncle (Cheeky) !!! after all the agonizing had been done, need I say. Anyway I had a babble for a short time and they all chatted away from me (Surely not!) . Please get this chat line up and going, let everyone out there know about it. Needless to say the bit I had was good fun. Anyhow hope things are good in Morecambe, does anyone remember Porkys? and the old Bath Hotel?

see thee V C

Hi Sue (and I bet you are!) Glad to see you returned this Saturday to the chat. Caroline really enjoys her Agony Hour, although there seems to be a lot more chat and memory lane stuff than solving problems at the moment. Make sure you return next Saturday.

Remember all you ex-Morecambrians 8pm (UK time) Sunday to Friday and 7pm (UK time) for Caroline, Or whatever you ask us to do!. The more people who return to the chat again and again means there is more chance of finding someone online. It's still early days yet, so please be patient.

Helen, - Newcastle, U.K

Like the site.

Cheers Helen, It's better than what our friend 'Bono' had to say!

Phil P. - Canada. e-mail : defiant25@hotmail.com

Great site. I met a girl who was visiting Canada from Morecambe and was curious to see what Morecambe was like. I was impressed, good job.

Hi Phil, You met a girl from Morecambe, how privileged you are. Is she still with you, are you still friends are you married. I'm sure she's not a gold digger. They say once you've been with a 'Lassy from Lanc's' you'll never settle for anything less. Do I sound sexist? surely not! Do I sound depraved? surely not! Do I sound nuts? surely, surely. Still, Woah Eh!

Chas. Martin, - Morecambe, Lancs, e-mail : Chasm@CMF.co.uk

I found the site by accident & even though I live in Morecambe I didn't know of it's existence. Brilliant idea for a town that's going places. Can you publicise this locally i.e. the Visitor or have you already done so? The site itself is great but have you got a picture of Morecambes most famous son on it or what and how often do you intend to update it?

Hello Chas

So many questions, well here we go:

The Visitor won't publicise the morecambe.co.uk web site because they say that it conflicts with theirs www.morecambeonline.co.uk. What happened to freedom of speech? It appears even newspapers are protecting themselves against the competition, to the point when the general public are missing out. We feel the morecambe.co.uk site has lots to offer people from all over the world and the more people get involved with it, the bigger it will get.

By 'Famous Son', do you mean Eric, if so, you need to look a little harder on the site, there is a page dedicated to his career and one to the statue by Graham Ibbeson (Who incidentally I have met and he is a great bloke).

The Guest book, jokes, poems etc are updated on a weekly basis, but if no-one leaves a message no update! Other pages such as photographs and other information are updated whenever we can. We are always looking for new ideas and things of interest to the viewers, got anything?

Dave Lea, - Elliot Lake, Canada, e-mail : davidlea@onlink.net

This is a bright and breezy web site, just like Morecambe. As I was reading the messages I came across a few names I recognised. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Born 1946 and went to Euston Rd. and MGS

By the way tried to get in touch with Phyllis but e-mail came back . Could you check her address for me

Thanks Dave

Hello Dave, well it's wet and windy today, just like me! The email address for Phyllis should be right!

Rebecca Kenyon, - Edmonton, AB, Canada e-mail : rebeccak@telusplanet.net

Hi All;

Well I made it back to Morecambe. I was there for a week and found it has changed in the last 14 years. The town looks more touristy (?) and there is more to do. The promenade looks excellent, and I really liked Eric Morecambe's statue. I enjoyed the nightlife, although it was a bit of a culture shock as to what I am used to here in Canada.

I will probrably see you again in February '00

Cheers,

I have some pictures if you are interested!

Hello again Rebecca, Of course I'm interested in your pictures, If you have the facility to scan them in and email me them, that would be great. It appears you enjoyed your stay, when you say 'more touristy (?)' I hope you mean for the better, because after all, if you'ld looked in the mirror you were a tourist too!

The Claw, - GadgetTown, Brazil -Gadgetboy@gadget.com

I'll get you next time, bob... next time....

You are a strange one. Are you referring to Bob the Fish, a little known sad joke teller of this site or Bob Monkhouse of similar background? As you are 'The Claw' I hope you don't catch crabs and coming from Brazil, you must be nuts! Still... next time... next time...

Frank Scott, - Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, e-mail : maurice@ae.net.sa

I think your site is well thought out and I enjoyed my visit. Perhaps you could think of putting a page for property sales. My wife and I are thinking of moving to Morecambe when we leave Saudi Arabia.

Best regards

Frank

Frank you must be mad! Why come to Morecambe with only one wife and little sand, when you can stop in Saudi, where you can have a harem of wifes and lots of sand! Still eh, nudge nudge, wink wink, eh!

Property sales are a good idea, but we don't go actively looking for new business, we want it to come to us of its own accord. So if there are any Estate Agents wishing to place actual properties on the site, please e-mail us at NewBusiness at morecambe.co.uk and we'll see what we can do.

Martin Normington, - Rotterdam, Holland, e-mail : martin.normington@quicknet.nl

Cheerful!

Anyone ex Morecambe Grammar '68-75 ish?

No just you! well perhaps there are a few hundred more out there but will they get in touch... let me know!

Viet Cong Sue, - Rotterdam, Holland e-mail : martin.normington@quicknet.nl

It is Sue again, right why Is there never anybody on the Morecambe chat?

Yes I am allowing 1 hour time difference, so that's not the problem.

Apart from that I think the Morecambe site Is well good and I come and have a look nearly every night. (to some may seem a little sad but what the hell) It beats getting Involved In the Dutch famous pastime, picking flowers that is.

See thee later.

Hi Sue, I take it your Martins other half! The new Morecambe Chat is a bit slow off the mark. We were hoping for ex pat's and people interested in Morecambe to meet at 8pm UK time. I'm glad you visit regularly, it makes our work here worth while, so thanks for that. Perhaps if you continue to meet at 8pm, others will follow suit, I'm sure we're not the only sad people out there!

Lisha Bowen, - Virginia Beach, United States, e-mail : lisha_d1@hotmail.com

Hi!

I have met a friend here in the States that grew up in Heysham and then Warton. She gets very "weepy" around the holidays and I was looking for something special I could buy her or do for her to simulate this area's traditions. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it very much.

Yeh, Firstly checkout the pages on Heysham Part 1 and Part 2, Then you could set up a witches coven and perform rituals and sacrifice boxes of chocolate to the great ones, "your appetites". or you could put some sand in your back garden with a little pool at the bottom, then strip off all your clothes and shout "last one in's a sissy! It might be a good idea if you invite some friends round and make it a proper Beach Party. PS if anyone has any more suggestions please e-mail them direct to Lisha.

James, - Morecambe, England

This website is o.k. but I think `morecambe needs more for kids to do .

I agree James, but isn't it your bed time, it's nearly 8pm. (Why not send us some suggestions James)

Lesley Harper, - Workington, England, e-mail : lesey@harper68.freeserve.co.uk

I think that this web site is brilliant, and after looking at it we are coming down for the day.

No, don't come now, it's raining

Ingrid and Yuri, - Sweden

Hello all of you people who arrange this web site, it is the best I have ever seen on the net. You are very talented all of you. I will be visiting shortly and would like to visit all of your lovely places. We will look forward to staying in the hotels in the areas around you. I know we will enjoy our stay there.

Well I hope you do. Hmmm, just a thought, If I were you, I would wear a hat because your blonde hair might get bleached white! and Ingrid you'd be better off coming on your own, The Morecambe chaps can not resist your sexy Swedish accent! Mind you Yuri, you could get lucky too!

Dave Shaw, - Glenwood, Nfld. Canada e-mail : ronwarren@roadrunner.nf.net

Hello agn. How nice to be remembered. Your memories must be as clouded as mine. However, it's nice to be able to check in when I'm at my buddy's house and use his equip. For the guy who likes abbrev..... WYBMADIITY?.... PTYFNA! We have looked over the site and find it vri informative and interesting. My friend keeps asking questions and I try to explain. Incidentally, we are both involved in SCOUTS CANADA (30 Yrs apiece). I can remember Scouts meeting at an old wooden hut somewhere behind St. Mary's school but I was never involved. Wish I had been. Any Scouters out there who might want to swap stories, ideas etc? Give us a call. Scouting has been a family affair with us. Both wives are also involved and our children. Gilwell, Part I,II, etc. Beads, Woggles, Campfire blankets, Badges, Pins... etc. So, we leave you with this information and we'll check in agn when I get back to use this keyboard. In the meantime.... TTFN.

Dave.

HI D. ITYAAFRCP, YWBBOSYFIYAAFYS. SILLY! TTFN.

The Queen, - London, England e-mail : Queen@windsor.com

Having been in Morecambe a couple of months ago, I asked my advisors if I could return. However, unfortunately my diary is filled up, but I wanted you all to know that I am with you in spirit. I think that the website is an absolutely spiffing idea as when I want to come to Morecambe, I can just look at the site instead. I would also like people to know that I am making enquiries as to whether it is possible to build a new residential palace on the sea front.

Yours sincerely,

HM The Queen

Cheers Liz! you must make your next visit a social one rather than opening a statue of Eric. Bring a cossie and some sun block, you'll have a great time. I' may even buy Phil a pint! Should you decide to build on the front you could call it "Queenies Castle"

Sue Normington, - Holland e-mail : martin.normington@quicknet.nl

I would like to see more pictures, with me living in Holland I miss Morecambe deeply

Certainly Sue, I've got an interesting one of my son learning to ride a bike, and some from our holiday in Minorca, then there's the christening and the car at the wedding, (not necessary in that order) Oh yes, and the one of grandma panicing just before she fell over...and... and...and...

Jean Robinson, - Sydney, Australia. e-mail : jean147@bigpond.com.au

I was born in Lancaster and also lived in Morecambe until migrating to NZ in 1966 - Thought the site was great. Never meet anyone in my travels from the area. Would be interested to hear from anyone who went to Lancaster Road School or Lancaster Girls' Grammar School. (I was born in 1950)

Hi Jean, you must be very clean (bet you haven't heard that one before) I like your Jam! I hope one of your old school chums gets in touch. There's a lot ot Forty year olds out there, walking the streets of Morecambe. Let's hope they know how to use the internet and contact you.

Sultan of Brunei, - Brunei, e-mail : Sultan@Brune.com

I love Morecambe and perhaps one day I may buy it, until that day I will continue my pledge to be considerably richer than yow!

Hello Sult. Thank you for patronizing us poor folk, however, if you give me 60% of your wealth, then I will be considerably richer than yow! (5 to 1 says it's from Craig!)

Peter Casaru, - Bristol UK e-mail : casaru.photography@btinternet.com

Great site, couldn't find link to Morecambe FC. I used to be photographer (1967/71) for Morecambe Guardian, now I work for my self. Thought I would look up the old club.

You haven't looked hard enough!

Surely if you used to be a reporter you would realize the score line Visitors 3, Morecambe 0.

If you have any pictures relevant to the site, please e-mail them to photographs at morecambe.co.uk we will be happy to show them to the world.

Brenda Glover, - Rhode Island, USA e-mail : Mn2468@aol.com

I was in the UK from Sept. 1999 - Dec. 1999. I stayed in Lancaster, but taught Year 2 at West End County Primary School in Morecambe. What a wonderful time I had. I visit the Morecambe web site often to catch a glimpse of what is going on in and around the community. Hello to all the staff at West End. I hope you are all well! I miss you!

Brenda, I can see a vision, a vision to the future, it tells me, you're a time traveler from the future. It's only October 1999 now and if you were in the UK December 1999 this means... Oh My God... You have must be able to obtain the Lottery numbers and football results for November and December... Please ... Please I beg of you, send me them quick, so I can become a Millionaire.

( You still have 'ask the audience' and 'phone a friend'! )

PS I must ask the children for West End County Primary what year it is, to see if they picked up on your habits?

PPS you've guessed it, I'm jealous again 'Rhode Island' You jammy ......

Craig Laycock, - Morecambe UK e-mail : Cragtek@Hotmail.com

Hi Peter,

I'd just like to say how pleased I am that the Morecambe site is expanding so quickly: 'I am very pleased'

Hi Craig, Thanks for all your input, it's nice when people get involved.

Mrs Mcgee, - Perth, Australia

Great to see more news on the net keeps us informed on life back home. thanks .

Look Mrs 'M', you chose to live in Australia. If you want News on Morecambe, get your bum on a plane and get yourself over here. Just because Australia is a beautiful place with a warm climate and fantastic beaches doesn't mean... that... Hold on a minute, do I sound jealous?... Sod this for a bunch of soldiers, I'm packing my swimming trunks and I'm coming to you!

Dale Winton, - Ipswich, UK e-mail : withheld just in case he is the real DW!

Hi,

I came to Morecambe once and I thought it was great. This site's almost as good as mine and bab's!!

Hi Dale, Hmmm... Dale... Dale Winton... If you are the real McCoy, surely you wouldn't be so big headed about yours and Barbara Windsors site, would you? or are you just being a cheeky boy? Freddie Starr will tie you to a board again and this time he won't shoot the assistant! I hope you are genuine because this would make you our first Celebrity visitor to the site. If you're not then I hope you get yours in the 'end'!!! (Time will tell)

Julie Bean, - Brandon Canada - e-mail : juliexxx@excite.com

Hello, This site is great and getting better all the time, I was reading your poems page and I think the "Morecambe Bay" poem is just too good just to be in with the poem page!! You should put it on your main page or with the Eric Morecambe page, That poem brings back to me all my childhood, Well keep up this web site!! you are doing a GREAT job of it, yours Julie Bean

Hi Julie, your wish is our command! The poem donated by Martin A. Barnes is right here

I must point out, everyone who submits a poem, joke or story to the site has just as much right as anyone else "published or not" to have there work on the site. We have also placed Martins poem on the Tribute Page because it is a beautiful poem. PS do you know Martin?

Don Schlundt - Mesa, Arizona, USA - e-mail : donschlundt@webtv.netc

What a nice setting. My wife Marie and I were in Morecambe in Sept. of 1997 to visit friends, George and Kate Powell. We have fond memories of the visit.

Hello Don, 1997 is a long time ago, I think you're due another visit!

Janet, - Ramsbottom, England

I found this website by accident, it should be advertised in and around Morecambe. Hello to everyone at Morecambe Lodge Caravan Park, Bolton-Le-Sands and Scout Crag, Silverdale.

Oh Dear Janet, I hope you're OK, it must have been a terrible accident to bring you to this site!

Craig Laycock, - Morecambe, England, e-mail : cragtek@hotmail.com

This site is great... I just wish that some of the jokes were more of my standard (ie. naff) then mine wouldn't look so bad. Keep up the good work, Peter!

Hi Craig, your jokes and comments are always welcome, nice to hear from you. I feel sure that one day someone will laugh at one of your jokes!... only joking!!!

Hazel Egan nee Hoole (Lancaster/Morecambe/Kirkby Lonsdale) Western Australia, e-mail : hazel@katel.net.au

the Robin car to be sent to him, via a friend arriving soon on a visit ... Really like popping in now and then
...regards Hazel

At last a result! I'm glad you've made new friends because of the site Hazel, It makes our efforts worth while.

Dave Shaw, - Glenwood, Nfld., Canada

Hello agn, just checking in to see if anyone had msgs. Still using someone else's comp. TTFN Dave.

L O D, I M APY 2 ear from U. F U NE X?, I F NT N E X (Roughly translated: Hello Dave, I am Happy to hear from you. Have you any eggs? I haven't any eggs!) I like to abbreviate things too!

Ian Maddox (Maddog), - Ramsey Forty Foot, England, e-mail : imadie@imadiesplace.freeserve.co.uk

The site is only getting better, keep up the good work, let's have more photos for all of us who have lots of child hood memories of Morecambe & surrounding district. It's nice to see Morecambe is being revived not to its old former glory but to a newer Morecambe for the people of today.

Anyone who went to St Marys primary School/junior & Our Ladys High School (1967 -1979) drop me a line

From a Born & bred Morecambrian but moved due to to employment & marriage. (my roots belong to
the Bay and surrounding district)

Keep the site going for all of us who have moved away

Hi Maddog, two good reasons to move away, I'm sure you could think of another to return for a visit! and thanks for saying the site is getting better, but let's face it how could it be worse!

Harry & Anne Laffan, - e-mail : harlan@dbworld.net.au

As ex-Morecambrians - 38 years ago, last visit a year ago, we are impressed with statue of Eric but are unable to place it. Where exactly is it, we cant tell from the pictures.

The statue of Eric is 200 yards to the right of Bubbles splash pool on the promenade, you really can't miss it.

Victoria Redford, - Morecambe, England e-mail : victoria_redford@hotmail.com

I'm living in Australia at the moment and so i thought I'd view the Morecambe web site to show people where I come from.

I think the web site is better than the place it's self, sounds weird coming from some one who comes from there but i know that the sun doesn't always shine.

Keep up the good work on the web and let's hope Morecambe becomes how it use to be full of tourists and no troubles.

Exactly my thoughts too Victoria

Doreen Barker, - Oxford, England, e-mail : doreen.barker@admin.ox.ac.uk

We visited Morecambe on a day trip from Blackpool on 3 August 1999 to see the Eric Morecambe statue. It was lovely, but our photos didn't come out. I can see no mention on this site of it being unveiled, by the Queen, and I can't find a picture of it either! Are the postcards in the shops yet? There were none available when we were there. It was the reason for our visit. Had a lovely day.

Glad you enjoyed your day and I hope you liked the picture I sent you! watch out for our tribute to Eric update!

Mick Cookson, - Morecambe/Manchester, England e-mail : xxhq@aol.com

Like the site chaps!

Keep up the good (and mostly taken for granted) work!

Hi Mick and your right our work is mostly taken for granted. We produce these pages for the love of it (We don't get any payment whatsoever, Zilch, Naught, Nothing, Nil, Zero, in fact it costs us more money than I care to think about just to keep running. It gives us a great deal of pleasure producing the site and hopefully you get information and a laugh or two out of the site. Cheers.

PS Where exactly do you come from Morecambe or Manchester? You must have been born in a car, traveling at 200 miles an hour or Very Fat!!

LESLIE HAGYARD, - KEIGHLEY , ENGLAND, e-mail : les@hagyard.softnetfree.co.uk

I have been six times this year. Very clean. Good sea front. It's a shame about the fun fair being made
smaller and there being no illuminations in Happy Mount Park. Points wise I will give Morecambe 9 out of 10.

Hello Leslie, The best place for illuminations is Blackpool, we just can't compete. That's why we have more events and festivals on the sea front, so Blackpool can't compete with us. By the way I'll give your comments 10 out of 10.

Mike Mayor, - Kanata, Ontario, Canada, e-mail : Michael.Mayor@lmco.com

This is a great website to catch up on all the news going on in my home town. Although my father gets the 'Visitor', unfortunately I don't. It is also great to see the town's revival and all the new things that are happening to the town. There are a few of us Morecambrians out here in the wilds so any news is good news. I was over in Melbourne, Australia visiting with Bill Park's family especially Roberta and we talked about how great it would be to have a school reunion. This happens quite often over here in Canada and the US and it is a very enjoyable event.

Also if other correspondents/expatriots agreed I would like to see a page on email addresses of people that write to you. There may be other Morecambrians here living close to me that I don't know about. It would be nice to contact them.

Otherwise keep up the good work.

(Spider Mayor)

Spider, a well fitting name for someone on the Web!. One thing, you go all the way from Canada to Australia and don't visit Morecambe, I'm very disappointed.

Barbara Powell (nee Kitchin), Geelong, Australia, e-mail : barbara@geelong.hotkey.net.au (new e-mail)

Great to visit the web site and read the comments. I was born in Lancaster and lived in Morecambe and Heysham, migrated out to Australia when I was 7. I have been back to the UK in '69, '89 and '96 and hope to return next year. My favorite place of all time is St. Patrick's Church at Heysham, and the stone coffins.

Yes Barbara, there's a lovely atmosphere at St. Patricks It's a shame it's full of dead people (I mean that in a caring way)

Julie M Smith, - Bradford UK, e-mail : julies@bilk.ac.uk

Not bad ! A nice concept; though you could do with running a spelling and grammar check on the content.

It would be helpful to provide more detailed maps too - I'm currently looking for a decent map to print out
for some friends who will be visiting Morecambe this coming weekend and I can't find one ! Put the Morecambe
and Heysham street- plan on please !

I couldn't quite understand why there's an agony column when the site's stated aims are to improve the
profile and boost economic prosperity and suchlike. Bizarre !

Julie, Julie, Julie, Spealing & Grandma Cheque, eye downt no wat u meen! The site is hear four a Laff, we don't (sorry) downt want to be two politically korrect.

The Agony column was something one of our readers suggested and is very popular. For every letter printed on the site, there is another three of four private replies. Caroline puts a lot of effort into helping people and deserves a pat on the back for her hard work.

Finally sorry we're not so hot on maps, we could just scan in a street map, but we don't want to get in to trouble with copyright. When your friends arrive in Morecambe just get them to call in a newsagent and buy a street map.

Hazel Egan nee Hoole, - Tambellup, Australia (Western) e-mail : hazel@katel.net.au

My, oh my! What a wonderful website .. I have been to others but none as rare as this ! How about a chat-page? Without all that sophisticated dialect - no, really I have thoroughly enjoyed all the visitors remarks ..with one exception, but then he probably knew no better. Lived in Morecambe after being raised in Lancaster ..all my children were born at the Queen Victoria hospital - what a lovely cottage hospital that was - the care of the patients was paramount in those days. Lovely Dr Robertson delivered my babies!!

I have been back seven times since moving to Australia in 1974 ....and I agree that it is sad to see so many of the old buildings boarded up and the trashy stalls along the promenade ... however I liked the old stone jetty ...and there are lots of new developments in progress. I don't think it is possible to capture the Morecambe of yesteryear ..we have to go forward ...but the floral displays along the prom and in Happy Mount Park are a credit to the gardeners.

I think you are doing a wonderful job but I wish you could or would also include Lancaster ...as they are combined in the councils, aren't they? I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from either Morecambe or Lancaster
Girls' Grammar School or the Accounts Bonus Dept., Williamson's (Now Nairns-of course)

Kindest regards to all, Hazel

Hello Hazel, Morecambe is run by Lancaster Council but this web site is totally independent, run by a few people who love Morecambe and its people and will do anything to help promote Morecambe to the world. Yes Morecambe has its good points and bad, but doesn't everywhere. Everyone remembers things slightly different and things are never the same but that's life. Sorry I'm straying of the point. As much as we could include Lancaster as well, we just don't have the time. If some rich type person came along and said there's fifty thousand pounds per year for ever, then we could make this site all encompassing, in fact probably the most exciting web site in the world, but, dream on. We do what we can and just hope you enjoy it.

John Shorrock, - Lambertville - Michigan, USA e-mail : jshorrock@steeltool.com

Great site - Born and raised in Morecambe, attended Lancaster Road Primary and Morecambe
Grammar School. Lived in the USA since 1980 been back a few times to visit family and friends. Would be
interested to hear from anyone who knows me - Still a great place to visit - if the weather co-operates!!!!

Hi John, well it's chucking it down today but I'm still happy. This afternoon I threw off all my clothes and ran down the street, singing and dancing in the rain. Well no actually I didn't, erm, I went to the pub at lunch time and spilt a pint of beer over me, but either way I still got wet!

Pauline Parkman, - Wellington, Somerset UK, e-mail : pauline.parkman@which.net

Wow! I'm really impressed with the 'new Morecambe'. I made a flying visit to the town last Sunday and the place was absolutely buzzing. I have never seen Morecambe so crowded since the days of my childhood in the 1950's, and it was really exciting to see everyone enjoying themselves. The street theatre group was terrific with the jugglers, acrobats and some strange looking characters swaying about on long flexible poles! Best of all was the man himself - Eric Morecambe - cast in bronze and yet full of movement. Visitors and fans were queuing up to be photographed next to him in similar pose. Well done to everyone involved in the project - it's exactly right and epitomises the towns most famous son. Keep up the good work with the site Peter. I'm sure there are many ex-Morecambrians like myself who check it out most days to see what has been added, especially in the visitors book.

Thanks a bundle

Pauline.

PS I'm still looking for my friend - Judith Holmes (now West) We went to Heysham School together from 1950-55 and Balmoral from 1955-60. I was Pauline Burge at that time.

Hi Pauline, It does seem busier, doesn't it. Here's our tribute to Eric. It's almost a shame Ernie couldn't have died a bit earlier, then a statue of him could have been at the side of him, The Magnificent Two together forever. I hope at a later stage Eric and Ernie have a joint statue it doesn't seem fair. Also I know your still looking for Judith but, but, but... People of Morecambe lend me your ears: Get up off your comfortable chairs and help the people on the Search Pages, you could give someone so much pleasure by helping them, Please Please Please, I'm begging.

Betty Slingsby, - Owen Sound, ON. Canada, e-mail : kenbet.s@bmts.com

The website is quite impressive. We know the Morecambe/Lancaster area very well, and always enjoyed a walk on the Promenade. We look forward to seeing the renovations next time we are on a visit! We shall always miss the Central Pier, where we used to enjoy dancing many years ago in the late 40s and early 50s! Whereabouts exactly is the Eric Morecambe statue? Good luck and best wishes in future endeavors.

Ken & Betty Slingsby.

Hello Betty, the New Statue is on the Promenade to the Right of Bubbles swimming pool, You can't miss it, opposite the Kings Arms pub.

DEVELOPING NICELY,COULD DO WITH A LITTLE MORE DEPTH OF INFORMATION BEHIND SOME OF THE TOPICS. (EVENTS FOR EXAMPLE - SUMMER BREEZE)

Hi Kelvin, You're right, we should be giving more, more, more a bit like Oliver or not as the case may be. When you write next time could you write in little letters as WRITING IN CAPS IS HARDER TO READ! Cheers

This site is absolutely great and I tell you what - I'll recommend this site to all my friends if you relay this message to the public. This is really important as I need low-cost advertising as I am just starting out on a shoe-string budget:

Cheers Craig if you want to advertise on this site, see our information pages, and you're right it is low-cost.

Jean Odom, - Gulf Breeze, Florida, America e-mail : odom_j@popmail.firn.edu

I am a former Morecambrian. I love Morecambe. I am disappointed that there are no pictures of the magnificent foothills and mountains across the bay. I know that the Visitor had some spectacular photos of the bay. I remember one in particular around February 1996 or 95 which was absolutely outstanding it was almost as if one could reach out and touch the snow on the mountains. Where are the pictures of the beautiful floral gardens or sandylands or the rock gardens near the old Town Hall ? I think that Morecambe has the most spectacular bay anywhere I have ever lived. Most places only look out across a body of water so please show the view as it truly is.

When I am feeling down I just remember the view across the bay or going up by the Priory or Williams Park on a clear day or Arnside Knott. Tell the tourists how to get to Jenny Browns Point or Fairy Steps and all those off the beaten track walks that only the locals know about. Sunderland Point etc. Tell the world how we are the Gateway to the Lakes and that from Morecambe they can visit so many historical sights of interest. Have trekking parties for the visitors . Use the place as a center for groups to go everyday on a different adventure be it up to Jubilee Tower and the valley beyond going by Wray and Bentham back home or down to Fleetwood etc and taking them on tours with pub lunches included. A day up Warton Crag and visiting the Roman Baths in the woods and silverdale etc.

There is a gold mine out there with the tourist boards. Get us on the American maps for package holidays that fill our places up and use us as a starting point for wonderful tours to Ingleton falls etc stopping at assigned places for lunch, tea etc. Give them an old fashioned (I can't remember what you call it) a scavenger hunt with clues around the places going out to Devils bridge or several villages having them get off the bus or vans or whatever transport and looking for clues amongst the old buildings. I hate to see Morecambe go down the tubes but there are a lot of people out there that would love our area if it was marketed right. Look at the

Georgian Festival in Lancaster we had a brilliant time with that a few years ago when we were over. Give them some barn dances and old fashioned hands on fun like we used to have. That's the ticket. Now that eve Eric Morecambe presiding over our town don't let him down. Get rid of all that junk and trash shopping on the prom there and put some class back into the place. It still is glorious it just need some new ideas and marketed with the travel tours as a package deal that no one can resist.

I brag constantly about our area. I even have my house called Morecambe with the name on the front porch. I sport photos of the Winter Garden. the Old Swimming Stadium and paintings of the Piers. Those days I know are gone but it still has a lot to offer.

God Bless

Jean Odom

Hello Jean. unlike Jacie from Scotland above, you have more than a couple of words to say, but don't you go on a bit? I bet your partner has a real ear bashing! Yes Dear, Yes Dear, Yes Dear!!. I bet when your neighbors have problems with mice they just invite you round for a coffee and after an hour on none stop chin wagging the mice just throw themselves on the traps!

Joking aside Jean your comments are appreciated and have been taken on board, you obviously love Morecambe as we do, all the best.

Pam McHugh, - Mt Isa, Qld, Australia e-mail : pqmchugh@bigpond.com

I have so many friends and fond memories of Morecambe - I lived there from 1974 - 1990, when I emigrated. Your web site gave me a buzz and I like the "detective" page . . .

Hello Pam, We get so many ex-Morecambrians from all over the world visiting the site saying they love the place and would like to come back for a visit. I'll tell you something Pam, given half a chance most of the people in Morecambe would like to visit Australia or Florida etc.

You see the grass is always greener wherever you are. Everyone should live for tomorrow and never look back (as I'm sure you do) because, well, it's cold today and I bet it's Red Hot down under and a dog's just done a pee-pee on my car. and I don't have any friends and my feet smell!...You know I started to sound a bit like Caroline our Agony Angel then but I think I need her Help.

Crystal, - Toronto, Canada, e-mail : www.banny. com

Chris Webster, - Morecambe, c.webster@talk21.com

Very good site. Is it possible to get pictures of Heysham head as it used to be? also the storms of the 70s? how about the ferris wheel that we used to have?

Hello Chris, Some good Ideas there. I'll tell you what!: You e-mail me some pictures of Heysham Head and I'll sort out some pictures of the Ferris Wheel. but you first, It's our town and everyone should make an effort. I look forward to hearing from you, and thanks.

Michael Sparks, Marsh, Lancaster

I run one of the best mobile hot dog stands in Morecambe when the summer times arrive. Ask for the chilla hot dog and get one free.

Michael, I umed and erd about putting your cheeky ad on this page. I think If someone visits your hot dog stand and Says "I'll have a warm Yorkshire Terrier please" you should give them a FREE DOG... What do you say!

Nelson, - US

You have a very pleasant web site. I read about your appealing city in Bill Bryson's "Notes from a Small Island." Although his comments were somewhat poignant, nonetheless it made your city seem charming. I hope to visit it someday. Best regards.

"A very pleasant web site"... Am I loosing it? has my witty remarks and sarcasm come to nothing? Do my feet smell? (actually yes!). Morecambe is the place to be, It's happening here, it's happening NOW. It doesn't matter how old you are from 6 months to 96 years old, there's something for everyone and it's a lot more than just "pleasant" PS never mind about visiting some day... VISIT NOW, dig into your savings, get out some of your hard earned cash and get on a plane.

Laurie Pedersen, West Bend, USA

Looks as charming as it's former residence....I'd love to visit someday!!! Laurie

Laurie, charmed I'm sure! have you always been so modest?... and we would love you to visit too.

Glen Langan, - Ft Lauderdale, Florida USA, e-mail : Glen33@webtv.net

It's a great web site, I'm from Heysham originally went to St Peters primary school Heysham village and Ripley St Thomas Lancaster left in 1982. I have lived in the states for 5 yrs now and have not been back to the UK since. This site keeps me in touch with how Morecambe has changed. My parents live in Lancaster and I still have a few close friends in Morecambe. Do you know if Alan Crookhall still runs the Queen Vic pub next to the Visitor?.I had many a good pint in there also is Roosters still there? great chicken and chips after a few pints.

Hello Glen, everything is prety much as you remember it, you can still eat, drink and be merry and put on as much weight as you like!... Cheers.

Mary Mills, - Morecambe, UK e-mail : millsmary@hotmail.com

Hi Mary, I find it really funny to hear that you have seen the site from Canada and not seen it from home!

Phyllis, - London, Ontario, Canada e-mail : maphy@skynet.ca

Hello gain - I have had an e-mail from a reader requesting the name of a Pork Butcher Shop that was about halfway down a hill back in the 1930's. I have drawn a blank and wonder if any of your readers may remember. I will check the site in a few days. Thanks. Phyllis

Hi Phyllis, I'm sure some one will be able to help you.

Kathleen, - London, Ontario, Canada e-mail : kathleen@wwdc.com

Hello, just browsing your site, feeling I would like to be back 'home' again. Visited Morecambe once more, in April just past. My friend Aldene lives in Heysham, it is always a treat to come 'home'. Three people have emailed me since my first message on your site. A pleasure to hear from them. Your site is very enjoyable and brings 'home' a little closer. Left Morecambe in 1948. I am now 67 and bought my first computer 2 years ago, it is great fun, bringing the world into my life.

Sincerely Kathleen

Thank You Kathleen, I am glad you enjoyed your visit 'home' and our web site. It's nice to have some positive results for our efforts and the town. Keep in touch.

Barry Wood, - Bradford, England, baz.wood@talk21.com

Your webb site is very good..all anybody could want is there and found with ease..Morecambe itself is well on the way back and the bay, well anyone who has seen sunset over the bay never ever forgets this jewel in the crown of England..!!!

Keep up the good work...Barry

Over the top or what? Just because City have moved up to the Premier division doesn't mean you can go all gooy on us! What happened to the old Yorkshire grit? I would have thought you would have called the site a right pile of horse sh.... Only joking Barry, Cheers

Christopher C. Reeve, Slatington. USAKFCDAWG@yahoo.com

I think this site shows Morecambe as being a great town. My family origonally comes from this town. Any one who might know a John, Ann or Olga Reeve I would like to hear from u. I dont know any ofmy relatives being my grandfather left England at a young age.

Hello Christopher, nice to hear from you again. What happened to your superman e-mail?
I know we nearly had a response about Olga on the
Search pages but nothing more as yet. People just arn't making enough effort to help. I'm sure if some of the readers spent a little time researching for the people on the Search page we would get a better result than at present. Anyway how's Lois Lane?

Amanda Fox, - London UK mandyfox@cwcom.net

This site is brilliant and very well thought out, hopefully it will be of some help on my search! I am looking for Graham owen Davies, Approx 57 yrs last known to be living in Clapham, SW4, London in 1965. Any information would be gratefully recieved.

Amanda I think I Love You! You're just too kind, I'll put this on the Search page for you.

Bob Wheeler, - Manchester UK

Why not post information about the schedule of Morecambe Bay walks on the web site?

Good question Bob. It's because Cedric who runs the walk (pardon!) gets booked up very quickly and it's all on a first booked first served basis. For more details about the walk and a contact number click here

Phyllis (Shaw) Neeedham, - London, Ontario, Canada e-mail : maphy@skynet

Hello again, I think your website is great. I haven't heard from anyone who remembers our family yet but a few names come to mind of former friends of bygone days, Winifred Hines, Lily Hodgson, Brenda Smith (I think Brenda married and moved to Burnley). Would love to hear from any one of them.

Keep the site going and thanks.

Hello again to you Phyllis, Let's hope someone gets off their comfortable chair and helps you! This comment is addressed to you 'READER' don't just sit there Phyllis needs your help... Do Something!

Jason Briggs, - Huntingdon, Cambs UK e-mail : punkrocker@currantbun.com

Cool site.

I have been coming to Morecambe for the last two year for the H.I.T.S punk fest,a nd would like to say what a great place it is to. Friendly people, Good service and generally a dam nice atmosphere. I am a punk myself and many places I visit just think we're going to cause trouble but at Morecambe I felt non of this only interest in and friendly chat and I thank you for that.

Cheers

Jay

Hi Jay. You come to Morecambe with your bright orange and green spikey hair with rings through everything, looking at people in a funny manner, spitting at little old ladys, getting drunk and then being sick everywhere. I ask you this: Why do you never invite me to your wonderful parties?

And Remember Jay 'Punks' are NOT suposed to be nice people, practice your spitting a bit more and you'll get the hang of it!... Cheers!

Kerry McGee, - Ayr, Scotland

Very informative.

Kerry, a person of few words or in fact two words, but... I like them. Shall I tell you something, well I'm going to tell you anyway: Some people visit the site and, wait for it, don't sign the visitors book. There you have it, shocking I know but there it is. If people don't sign the book, then how am I going to have fun? I tried a joke book once, but that only made me laugh. WAIT.... a white, padded van has just pulled up and I think they're looking for me! Bye...

Andrew Stedman, - Morecambe, England

As a local person, I decided to visit this site.

I was shocked at the quality and amount of effort that someone has put into it. I feel that some fine tuning and more links to local business ( tourism) would complete a suprisingly good site.

Keep up the good work

Thank you Andrew I'm glad you like the site. I agree it does need a bit of fine tuning. There are now so many different sections to the site we really do need to install an accurate index of some type to make it easier for people to navigate around the site. Once again thank you for your comments.

Mike Mayor, - Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Great; I have been visiting this site for a number of years and I am believe you have really improved it. Is this a new one as before there was a page showing different photo's of Morecambe and surroundings. One other thing would be some daily updates from the Visitor. My father gets a copy but unfortunately I don't but it would be nice to see what's ongoing and how some of our friends are making out. I liked your idea of hearing from is and a chat room. I haven't signed up but will do so in the next few weeks.

Hello Mike, Have you been drinking? because I'm not as think as you drunk I am!. What Chat Room we don't have a chat room (although it's a good idea, we must develop one) and this probably is a different site to the one you've visited before. There's lots of sites out there, some good and some bad, we like to think ours is good.

The Morecambe Visitor has its own web site at www.morecambeonline.co.uk although I shouldn't really tell you about, a bit of a soar point, you see I asked the editor to help us with the search for missing people by placing an editorial piece in the visitor but they refused point blank. They say it is conflict of interest, because they are in the process of setting up there own web site and appear to be afraid that this site will become so fantastic that no-one will want to advertise on their site. Well that's fine but what about the poor people who are searching for long lost friends or relatives. Personally I don't care about the business side of things, I just want to help people. So anyway morecambeonline is a good site and if you want to catch up on the latest news, it is the best place for it. I just wish they would think more about what web sites can do to help people and not just about money. (PS if anyone from the Visitor reads this and decide to help us with the search for missing people then please get in touch, we do need as much help as possible and then I can remove this rather disappointing statement off the site )

MARGARET, - HARTLEPOOL, ENGLAND

I HAVE NOT FOUND MUCH ON THE WEB YET SO CANT REALLY COMMENT IM NEW TO SURFING THE WEB I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING THE WEB FOR A PEN PAL FOR 4 WEEKS BUT HAVE NOT HAD ANY SUCCESS AS YET

Hello Margaret, Welcome to the internet. The e-mail you left on the guest book didn't work when I tried to contact you, but let's hope you read this. If you are looking for a pen pal, please send us some details so we can place it on the Pen Pals page and hopefully someone will contact you. Please use lickle letters (I'm nicking Chris Evens version of Little), We look forward to your e-mail at penpals at morecambe.co.uk

Tim Whitehead, London UK, e-mail : TWAX@btinternet.com

EX Morecambrian - Morecambe Grammar School 1958-1965 Visits regular but infrequent (3 x yearly) Family but no friends in the area.. shame but there we go. Net driven nostalgia drew me to your site - clean/good looking - I'd give M'cambe a whirl on the strength of it. If you know the address of a Morecambe Ol'boys/girls network drop me a line.

If your an Ol' boy or girl and remember Tim please get in touch with him at the address above. Personally I've never met the chap, who must be at least in his mid fifties by now and ready for drawing his pension.... Only joking Tim, I hope someone get's in touch and I'm glad you like the site.

M Holdsworth, Bradford England, e-mail : maurren@tdds.freeserve.co.uk

Intersting Web Site but I was looking for accommodation and this section is quite vague. No prices or facilities listed for Hotels or Guest Houses.

Hi there, you just can't please some people!

On the whole, Hotels are more expensive than guest houses because of the room sizes and facilities. Unfortunately we do not show prices and facilities because they are constantly upgrading, it's just too bigger job for us. The last thing we want to happen is show a room from £25 a night and it changes to £30 a night, you'ld soon be on our back with complaints. The list is there to save you time, if you like the sound of a Hotel ring them up, check availability and prices and place your booking... It's simple. There are a few hotels in the listings on the site with a link to further information and booking details.

Stephen Hughes, - manchester. UK. e-mail : stephen@hugh80.freeserve.co.uk

Keep up the good work

Stephen, a man of few words, but I like everyone of them!

Teresa (Shaw) Dominie, - Parsons Pond, Newfoundland, Canada

Hello all, Just popped in on a recommendation of my two Aunts who have signed in earlier. My father lived in Morecambe on Regents road until 1948. I am tracing my family tree and have found a lot of roots in Morecambe. I hope to visit some day. Your site looks very interesting and informative.

Let's hope those roots bring you back for that visit. Nice to here from you.

GARRY CRAIG, - PORT ELGIN ONTARIO, CANADA, e-mail : g.craig@bmts.com

I ENJOYED YOUR SITE. THOUGHT IT WAS WELL LAYED OUT.
PERHAPS ONE DAY I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT YOUR TOWN.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN 'PERHAPS', YOU MUST VISIT. HEY WE CAN WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS TOO! Ooops my sense of humour is getting the better of me!

James T. Brear, - Melbourne, Australia, e-mail : jbrear@vic.bigpond.net.au

Great site!my father was born at the grosvenor hotel, his grandfather used to own it and I'm naturally interested in the history and hope to visit some day.

Thanks for signing the visitors book (you must have clicked the send button at least 8 times... we got them all) Mind you some people don't even sign the visitors book and it makes me sad... I may be surrounded by plenty of people here, but if no-one signs this book, and tells us what they think of Morecambe and our web site. I get lonely, no-one to talk to, no-one to take the 'P' sorry mickey out off.... Or perhaps I've gone totally crackers. I always choose the correct lottery numbers but some how the wrong balls come out. My shoe size never gets any smaller and if I nip my skin. it hurts! Oh well, must go, but wait! who said always leave your audience wanting more? .... The last time I fell out of a tree was...... ..... ... .. .

Mary Ann Thompson, - Bloomfield, Connecticut USA, e-mail : mthompso@sjc.edu

This is a very good site--very thorough and easy to use! I am considering living in Morecambe while I spend some time with the faculty at Saint Martin College in Lancaster. This site has been very helpful for me in making that decision. Thank you

Hello Mary I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Jim Martin, - Montreal Quebec, Canada e-mail : j.e.martin@johnabbott.qc.ca

Nice web site. A map of attractions would be a nice addition. I was raised in Morecambe but have not been back since 1962. My wife, who has never been there, and I are thinking of visiting this summer - probably in June. Any info. would be welcome.

(My uncle, Doug Errington, was involved with "The Visitor" newspaper. I have lost track
of the family and it would be nice to contact my cousins; his daughters).

June is usually quite warm so your stay should be quite pleasurable for you, let us know what you think of the changes, because 37 years to stay away is just too long.

Phyllis (Shaw) Needham, - London, Ontario, Canada, e-mail : maphy@skynet.ca

Hi: Just found your site and had to say hello. I lived in Morecambe until 1948 when my family emigrated to Canada. I last visited in 1994 and was pleased to find that I could still find my way around after almost 50 years. We lived on Regent Road near Regent Park. I went to school in Lancaster to St. Peter's. I have many happy memories of Morecambe and wonder if anyone there remembers the Shaw family and would like to get in touch? Phyllis

Hello Phylis, 1948 you must have been a baby then perhaps you could retire to Morecambe.

Andrea, - Morecambe, Lancs

I have seen a few other Morecambe sites but this is by far the best ! (Andrea I think I love you!)
It's about time Morecambe got itself noticed and although the changes we have seen so far are pretty good there is lots more to do to bring back the tourists we used to have. And I think Morecambe should have it's own council again as I am sick of them spending all our cash on Lancaster !!!

Strong words Andrea. I know, it's a shame that Lancaster Council is in total control, but I assure you It saves a lot of money in the long run. Everything usually comes down to money. Have a good life.

Ambra Charlene, Morecambe ambrauk@aol.com

It is cool but what about Happy Mount Park, it has always been in Morecambe and it has been a great place for people to visit. The reason for its downfall is that our silly counsillors in Morecambe think having illumniations to be taken out of the park was a ridiculous thing to do. then to top it all off they get rid of all the illuminations.
from ambra age 17

We're all entitled to an oppinion. If you dissagree with local politics then 'Make Some Noise' If enough people agree with you, perhaps the council will listen and change their minds, only time will tell, GOOD LUCK.

Anikó Hegedûs, Budapeste, Hungary -mail : oblomov.1@drotposta.hu

Great site ... I run a Morecambe & Wise website (so 3 guesses what I was searching for!!!) at http://www.t-lomas.dircon.co.uk/mandwind.html I'll add a link back here ASAP ... the page on Eric Morecambe is extremely good.

The Eric Morecambe page is very good and I'm glad you think so too. All anyone has to do is mention his name and it makes you smile.

Kathleen {Shaw} Macdonald, - Canada, e-mail : kathleen@wwdc.com

Hello, at this point I have not been over it all, however, as a Morecambrian from a long way back it is enough for me to find he site. I have been back many times, and will be returning once again for a quick one day visit with my long time friend [53 years] who has now retired to Heysham. We lived at 81 Regent Rd, for many years. I
remember a house always full of airmen, as they were billeted on us during the war. Went to St. Mary's School, and then to St. Peter's Secondary Modern [as it was called in those days] in Lancaster. Worked at the Co-op Office in Morecambe when I first left school, and then we came to Canada as a family. The old pulls to return never seem to diminsh. Glad to have found this site.

Regards Kathleen

Hello Kathleen, you sound like a very nice person, I hope you enjoy your visit.

Alan Kenyon, Edmonton, Canada, kenyona@bantrel.com

Andy, Denise (and Peter)

I have many photographs of Heysham Village (St Peter's, St Patrick's, stone coffins, barrows etc.) taken by my late brother Bob Kenyon. Send me your email address and I will scan some for you, (and you too, Peter, if you like (yes please) ).
Cheers

No! Cheers to you Alan, We look forward to receiving your pictures, so we can display them on the site.

You know Alan this is what we want, feed back and action from everyone, remember the site is only as good as the people that visit the site and join in. thanks again!

Andy & Denise, - Canada

2 Morecambrians in exile in the colonies, nice to see the old town on the cyber map, is my old high school buddy Steve Blaine, still running Snatchems. Besides Morecambe, any shots of Heysham Village, the old church and the history etc.

Hello to the both of you. Could you send your e-mail address just in case Steve should read this and want to get in touch. See Alan Kenyons response above, cheers.

Would like to hear from anyone who may remember me. My maiden name was Williams, I attended Euston Rd school and Morecambe Grammar a lot of years ago, from 1945 - 1950 I think it was. I do visit Morecambe most years and I'm always amazed at the changes taking place.

Kathleen, let's hope some of your old friends get in touch, glad you like the site. Perhaps on one of your visits you may be able to meet up with some of your old friends, good luck.

Su, The Hague, Netherlands

It's Heysham and the Barrows that have stolen my heart. Could you please help me A.S.A.P. to find an address of a reasonably priced car hire in or near Morecambe. Have'nt been able to find addresses of car hire firms. Need one so I can come back and visit my mum, Heysham and the Lakes. Thanks Su

Hello Su, check ourt the garage pages on this site!

Derek Burge, - Chorley, Lancashire UK e-mail: DerekBurge@netscape.net

Thanks for an interesting site. I was brought up in Morecambe and moved to Chorley in 1984. But I still
consider Morecambe to be my 'home'. It has changed a great deal over the years, mainly I think for the better. I would love to hear from anyone who was at Morecambe Grammar School from 1960 to 1967. Best wished Derek Burge.

Hello Derek I do hope some of your old school chums get in touch

Elizabeth Lunny (nee Parry) - Kenora, Ontario, Canada - e-mail : rcc@voyageur.ca

I worked in Morecambe at the Post Office Savings Dept from 1959 to 1964. I have many fond memories of
the area. I have enjoyed your web site and as my husband and I are planning a visit next year it will be very helpful.

(Hello Betty! I have posted your Search for old friends, good look and I hope you enjoy your visit.)

Andy, - Morecambe, England
Well done. Its a good looking site which makes Morecambe look good! We just need more tourists now!

(Cheers Andy and you're right, a few more tourists are always welcome)

Julie de Burgh, - Wigan, England, J.DeBurgh@Fs1.Pgmd.Man.Ac.Uk
The site is good but you could do with listing more apartment/flats.

(I take it you like to stay in apartments ?....You don't have a relative called Chris do you?)

Chris Whitlock, - Ramsbottom, England

I like the jokes

(Chris I've put your joke on too!....But when Reg died, didn't he become X Reg?)

It would be nice if the places you advertise also had some kind of info i.e Opening times & prices.

Only two of the tidal info pages work. And under business there are none listed. Do you have a list of Builders Merchants, address , phone number.

Can you help with any of these points.

(Tides are now up to March and April to December will follow shortly. The business directory is still in early days, I hope it will be full one day. Are you a Builders Merchant? If so send your details in and we'll give you a cheap (just £10) listing. Sorry we do not supply Opening times or prices.

Who has a good memory for VERY old jokes? Here are some of the bits and pieces I remember from the
1950s and 1960s when I used to spend all summer in Morecambe with my grandmother. She enjoyed taking me to the theaters with the usual seaside comedians who came up with jokes like --
I arrived at Morecambe Promenade Click here for Alans joke and a few more.

MAGIC.

As an born and bred " sand grown un " and avid supporter of the almighty shrimps, ( in exile )
I'm obviously proud of 'my' town, and I think your website portrays Morecambe in a magnificent light, to both visitors and locals alike.

WELL DONE !!!

Oh Mike I think we love you!

Bob Waldie, - 6 Charnley Court, Shailer Park, Queensland 4128, Australia

I am trying to locate information on "The Aqua Lovelies". They used(?) to be a precision swimming show based in Morecambe. My mother swam in the show in 1949 - 1954. Her maiden name was Ella Mogerley and married name Waldie. She swam under both names. A friend recently sent us a couple of newspaper clippings with an old photo, with a column heading "Mike's Morecambe". I can find no reference to it or a Morecambe Newspaper. The clipping has an part of an ad on the back for "North West Dealers" with an offer that expires 31/05/97 so the clipping was printed in the 1st half of 97.

I realise that this type of is probably not what you are looking for but my mum was so thrilled to see the old photo and would like to make contact with anyone who swam in that period. She would especially like to get some photos.

Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards

Bob Waldie

G'day Bob ! I'll try and locate some pictures for your mother. In the mean while if anyone else out there has any photographs or information please forward them directly to Bob at the address above (or e-mail)

Pauline Parkman, - Wellington, Somerset, England

Excellent! I moved to Morecambe with my parents in 1950 when I was 6 years old. I left in 1970 but have visited regularly over the past 28 years. I've watched the town change over that time and am pleased to say it is once more looking good. Perhaps I've missed it, but is there any mention of Thora Hird - surely one of Morecambe's most loved supporters. Don't let's forget Victoria Wood either - she may not be a 'sand grown'un' but she always says good things about the town.

Thanks, I enjoyed browsing the site.

You know Pauline you're right, there are plenty of famous people with a link to Morecambe and Lancaster I picked on Eric Morecambe because he has been such an influence to me personally. I will make sure a section is for: Thora Hird, Victoria Wood and perhaps George Formby, another famous person no matter which 'lamp post' you're leaning on!

Alan Kenyon, - Edmonton, Canada

Hi again

You asked for a few comments after my visit to my old home town.

As expected the weather was cool but not too wet (amazing eh?) I see there have been some improvements in the town (such as the Jetty, some of the food, customer service etc.) and some downsides (such as the volume of traffic for the narrow streets, parking, boarded up stores, and how run down the West End looks). Other things never change (Heysham Village, good pubs etc.)

Visited the Lake District where I lived for nine years and it's still a beautiful area, even in November.

My Canadian friend thoroughly enjoyed it although said she could never get used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road. I enjoyed the nostalgia.

No doubt we'll be back some day.

Cheers

Hi Alan, nice to here from you again, glad you enjoyed your stay, I noticed your daughter below is getting in on the act!

I agree the West End is a bit run down but there are plans in the pipeline for massive refurbishments.

Your friend being a woman would get confused whatever side of the road she drives on! Oh dear why do I think I'm in for a slating from the feminists out there!

Keep in touch

Rebecca, - Winnipeg, Kenyon, Canada
